Workplace Activities are practice exercises for applying skills. Workplace Activities contain a realistic workplace scenario so apprentices can apply their skills in reading, using documents and numeracy as if they were a worker on the job. There are two types of formats available: interactive (web-based) and static (PDF-based).
Each interactive (web-based) Workplace Activity contains the same content and exercises as its static equivalent, however, apprentices complete exercises on the website instead of using or printing out the static (PDF-based) handouts. Consider using the interactive format as a change-of-pace from the format of static materials.
A limited number of interactive Workplace Activities (i.e., not the full set) were created based on feedback received from pilot participants about the most frequently used static materials during piloting. There are 11 interactive Workplace Activities available.
Each static (PDF-based) Workplace Activity contains a Handout of a realistic workplace scenario so apprentices can apply their skills in reading, using and numeracy as if they were a worker on the job. Instructor Notes are provided to help integrate exercises in technical training. Answer Keys are provided to evaluate progress. The full set of Workplace Activities (54 in total or 18 per skill area) are available in static format.
PDF bundles of all static Workplace activities, including separate bundles for Instructor Notes, Answer Keys and Handouts, are available for download.
Choose from either interactive or a static (PDF-based) Workplace Activities from one of the skill areas provided.
Important!
The online interactivities use only a limited number of pre-programmed responses when auto-marking responses. As a result, not all correct responses may be recognized.
If you submit a correct response and it is marked as incorrect, do not be discouraged.
A correct response that is similar to the answer the system provides but is marked incorrect only because of word choice or formatting, should still be considered correct.
For example, the answer “10” may be marked incorrect if a response is submitted as “ten”, or the answer “percentage” may be marked incorrect if a response is submitted as “percent” or “%”. In these examples, all the submitted answers mean the same thing as the pre-programmed correct response and should be considered correct.
